What is Supartz?

SUPARTZ Joint Fluid Therapy is a non-surgical, non-drug therapy for knee osteoarthritis. SUPARTZ therapy can help relieve pain, improve mobility, and get you back to your normal activities.

What is in Supartz?

Hyaluronan is a natural substance found in your joint cartilage and in the synovial fluid that fills your joints. In the knee joint, hyaluronan acts like a lubricant and a cushion in the knee. Supartz is made of hyaluronic acids and is manufactured under strict lab guidelines to ensure sterility, high purity and safety and is FDA approved for use in treatment of osteoarthritis.

Why do I need Supartz?

If you suffer from chronic knee pain due to arthritis then you are likely deficient in your knees joint fluid. Most likely the cartilage is degenerating and drying up. The goal of SUPARTZ is to supplement poor-quality hyaluronan in your painful knee with additional highly purified hyaluronan. SUPARTZ therapy is an injectable solution made from highly purified sodium hyaluronate.

How is Supartz performed?

A short 3-step injection process

Your doctor will inject SUPARTZ therapy directly into your knee joint right in the office. The whole procedure takes only a few minutes:

1. The doctor may use a local anesthetic to numb your knee

2. The doctor removes the fluid that is currently in your knee joint with a process called arthrocentesis if necessary.

3. The doctor injects SUPARTZ JFT into the knee joint space using ultrasound guidance to ensure putting the fluid into the area where your cartilage is most damaged.

The doctor will then refer you for physical therapy to rehabilitate your knee. Physical therapy will include treatment for pain reduction as well as therapeutic procedures like massage and exercise. Most patients experience little or no discomfort during the injection. If you're concerned about the injection, talk to your doctor about ways to reduce any mild pain that may occur.

SUPARTZ treatment is approved for 5 weekly injections, but some patients may benefit from only 3 injections.

Supartz treatments have been known to be successful in helping patients to avoid knee replacement surgery. Supartz can be performed yearly without any risks.
